Editorial Policy — AutoFactsDB

1. What We Publish

AutoFactsDB is a structured automotive parts fitment catalog. Each part carries a brand, a manufacturer part number (MPN), a repair-system category and subcategory, application notes, and market coverage flags — all matched to a specific vehicle configuration: make, model year, model and engine. We publish reference data and editorial guides; we do not sell parts, publish prices, or accept product listings from sellers.

2. Where the Data Comes From

Parts are compiled from published manufacturer catalogs and aftermarket application data — the same fitment sources parts distributors and professional parts counters rely on. We normalize that data into a single taxonomy: consistent category names, standardized part number formats for cross-referencing, and stable page addresses for every vehicle configuration.

We preserve the qualifiers that decide whether a part actually fits: position (front or rear, left or right), trim and package restrictions, the market the application was published for (US, Canada, Mexico), and quality tier where the source catalog defines one.

3. Fitment Standards

Our core editorial rule is simple: if a source catalog doesn't confirm a fitment, we don't list it. Every part is matched to the engine level, not just the model, because a single model year frequently ships with multiple engines whose parts don't interchange. We do not pad pages with "universal fit" products or near-fit suggestions.

4. Quality Controls

Every catalog update runs automated checks before anything is published:

Record validation — required fields, malformed rows and duplicate signatures are caught during import, before data reaches the database.
Part number normalization — every MPN is stored in a punctuation- and case-insensitive form so search and cross-referencing work regardless of how a number is written.
URL integrity guard — a manifest of every published page address is checked on each update; a data change that would silently move or remove an existing page fails the build until it's reviewed and explicitly accepted.
Link validation — internal links are machine-checked on every build so navigation doesn't rot as the catalog changes.

5. Update Cadence

The catalog is updated on a rolling basis as new source data becomes available. Updates are shipped as complete, validated imports — not piecemeal edits — so the site is always internally consistent: counts, category pages, sitemaps and search reflect the same underlying dataset. Part numbers may be superseded and application lines corrected or removed between updates.

6. Corrections

If you find an error — a part listed for the wrong engine, a superseded number, a note that contradicts the manufacturer's catalog — email [email protected] or use the contact page. Include the page URL, your vehicle's exact configuration and, if possible, the part number involved.

We verify reports against our master database and source catalogs rather than editing pages ad hoc. Confirmed corrections are applied to the master data and ship with the next update, which keeps the fix consistent everywhere the part appears — category pages, part pages, fitment lists and search.

7. Editorial Independence

The site is funded by affiliate commissions on outbound buy links and may show display advertising. That compensation does not influence editorial output:

Parts are matched to vehicles by fitment data alone — placement is never sold.
Categories and subcategories are sorted alphabetically, not by commission.
No brand or manufacturer pays to appear, rank higher, or be labeled "popular" — popularity flags come from the source catalog data.
Guides and explanatory content are written to help you verify fitment, not to push a purchase.

8. What We Don't Do

We don't guess fitments or interpolate between configurations.
We don't publish prices, stock levels or seller ratings — those live on the retailer's site.
We don't accept payment for listings, rankings or reviews.
